Richmond has released a re-worked version of an Alex Lloyd number 10 hit song, which has been adapted to the Tigers’ 2014 membership theme.

The Tigers collaborated with the four-time ARIA-winning artist to release Coming Home (to Richmond), a version of the 2013 song, ‘Coming Home’, which was specially re-written for the Club.

Lloyd revealed the membership anthem live to the crowd at Richmond’s Family Day, at the ME Bank Centre today (Sunday, February 16).

The song is available now from iTunes via pre-order, before it is officially released on Friday, February 21.

A portion of the sale proceeds of the song will go to the Club’s preferred charity partner, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

The idea for Coming Home (to Richmond) was adopted through the connection between Lloyd’s original song ‘Coming Home’ and the Tigers’ membership theme for 2014 – Strong and Bold: Bring the Roar Home.

“Having been a fan and lifelong supporter of the Australian sporting industry, I am exceptionally proud and overwhelmed to have been asked to recreate one of my songs for the Richmond Football Club,” Lloyd said.

“I look forward to cheering on the Tigers, both on stage and on the sidelines throughout 2014.”

Richmond’s 2014 ‘coming home’ theme is based around several factors. This year, Richmond will field a stand-alone team in the VFL, bringing official matches back home to Punt Road Oval, at the ME Bank Centre. The Club is putting the finishing touches on its redevelopment of the training and administration home base at its iconic ground.

And, for the first time since 2010, the Tigers will play all of their home games in Melbourne during the 2014 season, after three years of hosting matches in Darwin and Cairns.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with an artist of the calibre of Alex Lloyd, whose original Coming Home song resonates strongly with our themes for the 2014 season,” said Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale.

“It’s a unique opportunity for our club to have our own words attached to an iconic Australian song, and we hope all of our fans enjoy the end result.

“We are extremely proud of the work we’ve done in the last few years to invest in our home at the ME Bank Centre, including the redevelopment of the facility, as well as working hard to return all of our home games to Melbourne, launch our own VFL team, and bring official games back to Punt Road Oval.

“It’s also about giving our loyal, passionate members and fans a place they can call home, and we’ve been determined to provide that.”

Lloyd has released six albums in his career so far, and his singles have collectively sold more than 700,000 copies.  His honour roll includes four ARIA Awards, an APRA Award and countless nominations for both his music and film soundtrack work.
