Retired Richmond cult figure, Jake King, has spoken of the special bond that he’s shared over the years with his Tiger teammate Daniel Jackson.

King, who announced his retirement from league football (effective immediately) yesterday (Monday, July 28), told 3AW that Jackson had played an important role in teaching him life skills.

“When I first got drafted, I was on the rookie list and ‘Jacko’ was playing down Coburg at the same time, and he was going through a tough stage in his life . . ,” King said.

“Him being a Richmond player, he took me under his wing at Coburg, and as a rookie, and just helped me out enormously.

“Both of us, obviously not being gifted with natural talent, had to work over and above . . . work on fitness and everything around it, which was one thing.

“But Jacko taught me a lot about life.  He’s actually taught me a fair bit on how to present myself and the way you go about things.
“I can’t thank him enough.”

King also expressed sincere gratitude for everything Richmond had done for him.

“I cannot picture the world without footy and the Richmond Football Club . . . I can’t speak highly enough of them,” he said.
