Hordes of Tiger fans were on hand to see Richmond train in Pakenham for the Club’s annual Australia Day weekend session on Friday.

The Tigers trained at Toomuc Recreation Reserve, before signing autographs and running a footy clinic for the kids.

The twilight event was part of Richmond’s partnership with Parklea Developments and the Cardinia Shire Council, which aims to bring AFL football to the Cardinia Shire community.

Richmond defender Chris Newman, who grew up in nearby Narre Warren, said it was a good opportunity for the players to get out of the pre-season grind and take training into the community.

“Throughout any pre-season it’s important to get a freshen-up, and get out of the environment that you’re in every day,” he said.

“Especially for me, it’s great to come out here, because obviously I’m from down this way.

“Anytime we do a function down this way there’s always a big horde of Richmond supporters.  You see a lot of Richmond jumpers, which makes us proud that the Club stretches out to these communities.”
