Richmond star Brett Deledio unveiled a new goalkicking technique in last Sunday’s thrilling five-point win against Collingwood at the MCG.

Deledio used it to boot two crucial last-quarter goals, after marking strongly on the lead while playing deep forward, to help lift the Tigers over the line.

Deledio feeling fine

“I used to go back a long way and then I’d walk in.  I’d probably think about it way too much,” Deledio said on this week’s episode of the Club’s official podcast ‘Talking Tigers’.

“So I just take it as simple as I can . . . three or four steps, kick the goal.

“It’s something I’ve been working on with (assistant coach) Brendon Lade for the last seven or eight months.

“I notice that ‘Rough’ (Hawthorn’s star forward Jarryd Roughead) does that, too . . .

“I just found the new changing signs (around the ground’s perimeter) – it was a red sign – I remember looking at that and thinking, right, this is where that’s going . . .”

Lids looms large

Deledio relished his move in the last quarter to the goal square – something he hopes might eventually occur on a more regular basis.

“I’d love to,” he said.

“It’s what I grew up playing, especially a lot of TAC Cup.  I’d start deep forward and then go on-ball and then finish off the game down there.”
