Richmond goalkicking gun Jack Riewoldt has provided an insight into the changing role of key forwards in league football.

Riewoldt, who kicked the 400th goal of his league career during last Sunday’s win against Collingwood at the MCG, told SEN that he has had to adapt his game to suit the greater team emphasis on sharing the scoring load.

“You’ve just got to look at the Coleman Medal stats, basically,” Riewoldt said.

“Key forwards aren’t kicking 100 goals any more . . . 60 is a good year.

“Contested marks are probably down, just general marks from forwards are probably down as well.

“So it’s about finding other avenues to goal.

“For me, I suppose I’ve had to evolve as the game’s evolved . . . I play a little bit further up the ground.  I played a little bit like a half-forward on the weekend (against Collingwood), with Liam (McBean) and Tyrone (Vickery) coming back in the side and playing more of those key-forward roles.”
