Experienced defender Troy Chaplin was Richmond’s leading vote-getter in the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award for the Round 17 match against Fremantle at the MCG.

Chaplin, playing his 200th league game, received eight votes from respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Ross Lyon (Fremantle) for his excellent efforts across the Tigers’ backline.

He had 23 disposals, including 10 contested possessions, a game-high 13 interceptions, an equal team-high four rebound-50s, four inside-50s, and took eight marks.

Talented, young Tiger Brandon Ellis picked up four votes for an impressive display that netted him a game-high 31 disposals, including nine score involvements and three rebound-50s, along with 10 marks.

Richmond’s two other vote-getters in the match were hard-running midfielder Shaun Grigg and mature-age recruit Kane Lambert, who was playing just his sixth game of AFL football.

Grigg, one of the Tigers’ most consistent performers this season, polled two votes for another valuable contribution – 22 disposals, including a game-high eight inside-50s and seven score involvements.

Lambert also gathered two votes after finishing with 22 disposals, including an equal team-high 13 contested possessions, a game-high eight clearances, a team-high four centre clearances, four inside-50s and an equal game-high 10 score involvements in an impressive showing through the midfield.
