Richmond will have the capacity to host night VFL night matches from next season, with light towers recently installed around Punt Road Oval.
Three light towers have already been erected, with a fourth to go up in the off-season.
The son of lifelong Richmond supporter Wally Gale generously funded the light tower project, in memory and respect of his father, to ensure his legacy forever remains part of the Richmond Football Club.
Wally Gale passed away in November 2014. He was born and raised in Richmond and supported Richmond for 89 years.
A plaque is affixed to the base of each light tower which reflects his legacy.
Thanks to their generosity, Richmond’s VFL side will now be able to train under broadcast standard lighting throughout the season, and possibly host a number of night matches during the 2016 VFL season and beyond.
The lights will also provide the AFL side an option to train at night if required, while allowing Richmond members and supporters an opportunity to enjoy Punt Road Oval at events such as ‘Before the Pounce’.
The ongoing belief and generosity of Wally Gale’s family have shown in the Richmond Football Club to enable a major project to be completed ahead of schedule, emphasises the importance of the Fighting Tiger Fund.
The Fighting Tiger Fund provides Richmond members and supporters an avenue to go above and beyond their membership to financially support the Club, which enables it to build towards a ‘Strong and Bold’ future.
