In the lead-up to the 2015 National Draft on November 24, richmondfc.com.au is looking back at some of the players who have entered the AFL system in the past decade, and will line up for the Tigers in 2016.  First up, it’s Kamdyn McIntosh, from the Draft of 2012.

Kamdyn McIntosh was Richmond’s second selection (No 31 overall) in the 2012 Draft, recruited from Peel Thunder in the WAFL.

Richmond’s talent scouts were attracted to his outstanding running ability and foot skills, attributes which have proven to be effective so far in his AFL career.

The Pinjarra product was drafted in the same year as rising star defender Nick Vlastuin, and endured two tough seasons battling injury, and waiting for his opportunity at the highest level.

After an outstanding pre-season leading into 2015, he made his debut in Round 1 against Carlton, and didn’t look back, playing every game and averaging over 15 disposals.

He was rewarded with an AFL Rising Star nomination for his debut performance, and recently signed a two-year contract extension.

From the 2013 AFL Record Season Guide

Versatile defender capable of playing on medium forwards and talls.  Played four games for Western Australia at the 2012 AFL Under 18 Championships, closing down dangerous opponents and providing good run from defence.  Also acquitted himself well in four appearances at senior level for Peel Thunder in the WAFL, averaging 17.5 disposals, five marks and three tackles.

What he said after being drafted

“My first day at the Club, one of the boys I hadn’t met before came down and introduced himself. I just asked him, ‘So, how are you involved with the Club?’ And, he just told me, ‘Oh, I’m a player’.”
