Richmond Football Club hosted a contingent of administrators from the Pacific Island nations of Tonga and Fiji this week to discuss the role sport can play in promoting inclusivity, equality and diversity.

The forum was arranged through the Burnet Institute, which aims to achieve better health outcomes for poor and vulnerable communities in Australia and internationally.

Richmond presented the findings from its research paper Gender Equity: What will it take to be the best? The research that was jointly commissioned with the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission.

“One of the key undertakings that resulted from that paper was that as a Club would take a leadership position and share our findings and interventions, what has worked and what needs more attention,” Richmond’s general manager of people, culture and performance, Dr Amanda Green said.

“You don’t just undertake these projects and sit them on the shelf – they need to drive action and we were only too happy as a Club to discuss our experiences with this group and vice versa.”
