We continue our special series at richmondfc.com.au, asking Tiger fans to select the best player to have worn each of the most significant guernsey numbers in the Club’s history.  To assist in your quest, we have profiled those players who have racked up a minimum of 50 games in the number.  The game totals and years listed relate to those played while wearing the specific number, not total Richmond career numbers.  Today, we turn our attention to No. 37.

No. 37

Michael Green – 146 games, 1966-1971; 1973-1975

Worked his way through the ranks at Richmond, from the under-17s to the seniors, and became one of the best big men in Tigerland’s history.  Was an excellent mark, a good kick, mobile for his size, a fine tap ruckman, dangerous around goals, and he thrived on big-occasion matches.  Produced outstanding form in the 1969 finals series, culminating in a magnificent performance opposed to Carlton champion John Nicholls in Richmond’s premiership triumph.  Retired after the 1971 season due to work and family commitments, but made a comeback in 1973.  Went on to play an important role in the Tigers’ back-to-back premierships of 1973-74.  Was selected in Richmond’s Team of the Century.

John Thompson – 65 games, 1959-1963

Played predominantly at centre half-back in his career with Richmond.  Was a dependable defender, who performed admirably throughout what were tough times for the Tigers’ team.  Finished third in the Club’s Best and Fairest award in 1960.

Noel Jenkinson – 54 games, 1976-1979

A steady, close-checking full-back, who could give the ball a decent roost.  Worked his way through the ranks at Tigerland, starting with the under 19s at just 16 years of age.  Was a member of the under 19s premiership side in 1973.
