Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has been rewarded for his superb showing against Fremantle at Domain Stadium last Saturday night with a perfect score in the AFL Coaches Association’s Round 9 Player of the Year award voting.

Cotchin was a driving force in the Tigers’ 38-point win, picking up an AFL career-high 39 disposals, including 18 contested possessions, a game-high 10 clearances, a team-high 569 metres gained, five inside-50s, three goal assists, plus seven tackles.

He duly received the maximum 10 votes from rival coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Ross Lyon (Fremantle).

Dynamic Tiger midfielder Dustin Martin continued his strong polling performance in the prestigious coaches’ award, obtaining eight votes after a dominant 30-disposal display that included 14 contested possessions, an equal game-high six inside-50s and five clearances, along with five tackles.

Richmond’s other Round 9 vote-getters were ruckman Shaun Hampson (three), tenacious midfielder Anthony Miles (three), talented playmaker Shane Edwards (two), plus young guns Brandon Ellis (one) and Nick Vlastuin (one).
