Valued Richmond veteran Shane Edwards is fully aware of the football capabilities of exciting Tiger youngster Oleg Markov.

Edwards has closely followed Markov’s progress through the ranks at SANFL club North Adelaide and then to Richmond via the 2015 AFL National Draft.

The Tigers took Markov with their second pick (No. 50 overall) and he’s displayed impressive development throughout his first season at the Club, making an eye-catching senior debut a couple of weeks ago against the Western Bulldogs, then showing further promising signs against Essendon last Saturday in his role as a running half-back.

Edwards’ father, Greg, is North Adelaide’s CEO, and his younger brother, Kym, played alongside Markov at the SA Roosters, so the Tiger veteran of 183 games has some good ‘intel’ on him.

He is convinced Markov has the potential to become something special in AFL ranks.

“They reckon he could do things in games that had never been seen in football before, like taking off down the sideline, bouncing it four times and then kicking a miraculous goal.  And then, after the game, not actually remembering doing it,” Edwards told the Fox Footy website.

“He’s super exciting, and he’s got so much upside because he’s fairly raw to the game.”
