Finding the Forgotten Tigers

In remembering the ultimate sacrifice made by Richmond players during the wars that Australia fought in, the Club has always listed the names of Les Lee, Bill Nolan, Artie Harrison, Bill Cosgrove and Bill Garvie. But what about the men of the reserves, or thirds, or our VFA era, or Club officials, who died at war?

Statistics strongly support the fact that ‘ball-magnet’ midfielder Anthony Miles has been a valuable acquisition for the Richmond side over the past three seasons since joining the Tigers from rival league club Greater Western Sydney.

After being involved in just one victory during his two-year, 10-game senior career for the Giants, Miles will enter season 2017 with the best winning strike-rate at Richmond among the Club’s current playing group.

Miles has played in 32 wins from his 55 games with the Tigers, which is a winning strike-rate of 58.1%.

Taylor Hunt has the best overall winning strike-rate of any player on Richmond’s list, at 68.9%, but that’s because of the considerable success he enjoyed throughout his five-year career at Geelong. He was part of 49 wins and only 14 losses in 63 games all-up with the Cats, at a highly impressive success strike-rate of 72.8%.

The list of players with the best winning strike-rates, solely at Tigerland, is:

  • Anthony Miles – 58.1% (32 wins from 55 games)
  • Ivan Maric – 57.5% (46 wins from 80 games)
  • Ben Griffiths – 55.7% (34 wins from 61 games)
  • Jake Batchelor – 55.4% (45 wins from 83 games)
  • Steven Morris – 55.2% (47 wins from 86 games)
  • Kamdyn McIntosh – 55.1% (16 wins from 29 games)
  • Taylor Hunt – 55% (22 wins from 40 games)
  • Dylan Grimes – 54.4% (43 wins from 79 games)
  • Nick Vlastuin – 53.7% (43 wins from 80 games)
  • Brandon Ellis – 53.1% (58 wins from 110 games)
  • Shaun Grigg – 50% (62 wins from 124 games)
  • Kane Lambert – 50.0% (14 wins from 28 games)
