Richmond defender Nathan Broad has been charged by the AFL's Match Review Officer for engaging in rough conduct in Friday night's win over Essendon.

The charge occurred against Bomber Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti in the final three minutes of the second quarter of the eight-point win at the MCG following a Ryan Garthwaite tackle on Mark Baguley.

Broad will be free to play the Western Bulldogs in Saturday afternoon's clash at the MCG.
