Richmond forward Josh Caddy has been offered two fines by the AFL's Match Review Officer out of last night's qualifying final win over Hawthorn.

Both charges were for separate incidents of engaging in misconduct against Hawk Dan Howe in the second quarter of the 31-point victory.

Caddy can accept both fines with early guilty pleas and be available for selection in Richmond's preliminary final in a fortnight's time.

The MRO also assessed separate incidents involving Richmond leaders Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt and Alex Rance, but took no further action from their respective matters.

Charges Laid:

Josh Caddy, Richmond, has been charged with engaging in misconduct against Daniel Howe, Hawthorn, during the second quarter of the First Qualifying Final between Richmond and Hawthorn, played at the MCG on Thursday September 6, 2018.

Other Matters Assessed:

Contact between Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and Hawthorn’s Shaun Burgoyne from Friday’s match was assessed. After a marking contest, Burgoyne reaches to gather ball and Cotchin makes high contact. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that Cotchin ran through the line of the ball and was making a realistic attempt to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

Contact between Hawthorn’s Paul Puopolo and Richmond’s Alex Rance towards each other during the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. After viewing all available vision, it was determined that while Puopolo made contact to Rance’s neck/face area with his forearm, the force used was below that required for a charge to be laid, when considering he was also being impacted by other players at the time. As Rance was on the ground with the Hawthorn player’s weight on him, it was the view that he was seeking to push the player off him and that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances.

Contact between Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead and Richmond’s Reece Conca from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Roughead competes in a ruck contest and the ball comes towards Conca. The Richmond player reaches for the ball and high contact was made as he tracked the ball. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that Roughead braced himself, and did not elect to bump. No further action was taken.

Contact between Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt and Hawthorn’s James Sicily from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Contact was made with an open hand and it was the view of the Match Review Officer this was not a clear striking action. No further action was taken.

Contact between Hawthorn’s Paul Puopolo and Richmond’s Daniel Rioli from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. As Rioli tracks the ball towards the boundary, he gathers the ball and turns back into Puopolo, who is pursuing him, with contact made between the two players. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report, it was the view of the Match Review Officer there was insufficient force in the contact to constitute a charge. No further action was taken.
