The AFL’s all-time attendance record for a Friday night match is a strong chance to be broken when Richmond and Collingwood do battle in the 2018 preliminary final at the MCG.

Currently, the highest crowd figure for a Friday night fixture is 98,002, which was set in the 2007 preliminary final between the Magpies and Geelong.

Richmond’s biggest Friday night crowd came in last year’s qualifying final, when 95,028 saw the Tigers defeat the Cats by 51 points.

The last time Richmond played Collingwood in a preliminary final – back in 1973 – the attendance number was 98,652.

Four years earlier, a huge crowd of 107,279 packed the MCG for another Tigers v Magpies preliminary final.
