With the departure of several players from Richmond since the end of the 2018 season, we’re taking a look at the history of all the guernsey numbers available at the Club for 2019. The game totals and years listed relate to those played while wearing the specific number, not total Richmond career numbers. We turn our attention today to the main wearers of the No. 39 Yellow and Black guernsey...

Andrew Kellaway – 172 games, 30 goals, 1998-2006

Initially started off with Richmond on the supplementary list after being recruited from then VFA club Sandringham. Was upgraded to Richmond’s primary playing list in 1998, but it wasn’t until 2000 that he established himself as an integral part of the Richmond line-up, alongside his older brother Duncan. Played every game during that 2000 season, in a key defensive role for the Tigers, took the most marks by any player at the Club, and capped off his impressive efforts by winning the Jack Dyer Medal, as well as gaining All-Australian selection. Went on to provide Richmond with excellent service throughout the rest of his league career, earning enormous respect from teammates, coaches, supporters and opponents alike for his courage, determination, dedication, discipline and durability.

Tony Jewell – 70 games, 14 goals, 1964-1970

Recruited by Richmond from VFA club Oakleigh, where he had established himself as a forward at senior level. At Tigerland, however, he developed into a rugged, determined defender. Was a valuable contributor for the Tigers in their drought-breaking 1967 premiership year, as a back pocket minding the opposition’s resting ruckmen. Subsequently coached Richmond reserves to the premiership in 1977, before taking over the senior coaching reins at the Club. Guided the Tigers to a crushing Grand Final victory over Collingwood in 1980. Also served the Club as chairman of selectors and as a board member.
