Richmond’s VFLW side will kick-start the 2019 season with a match against Darebin at Preston City Oval on Saturday, May 11 at 12.00pm.

As per the 2019 fixture, which was released today, the Tigers will play six home games at the Swinburne Centre and one at Queen Elizabeth Oval, Bendigo.

With a bye in Round 2, Richmond will play its first home game in Round 3, facing Essendon on Saturday May 25 ahead of the Dreamtime at the ‘G match.

Richmond’s Female Football Operations Manager Kate Sheahan said the VFLW Dreamtime game, which was played for the first time in 2018, will be a highlight of the season.

“It’s been so exciting knowing that we’re going to have it again and the girls will wear the Dreamtime jumpers again,” Sheahan said.

“It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the side’s Indigenous players and the work the Club does with the Korin Gamadji Institute.”

The Tigers will play their first interstate game in Round 6 when they travel to TIO Stadium in Darwin to meet NT Thunder on June 15.

The match will prove an excellent opportunity for the side to experience travel as elite athletes ahead of the Club’s AFLW inception in 2020.

“We’re really keen on participating in this match as it gives the women an opportunity to travel as a group and develop some understanding of best practice leading into AFLW where we will be required to travel,” Sheahan said.
