RICHMOND defender Graham Polak continues a slow recovery in the Alfred Hospital, nearly five days after being hit by a tram in Melbourne's inner suburbs.

The Tigers confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old has been inundated with letters, cards and messages, with almost 1000 arriving through richmondfc.com.au.

Polak's partner Alyce Oksuz said the family has been thrilled with the support.

"The Polak family and myself have been overwhelmed with the well wishes across Australia," she said in a statement.

"Graham will be really grateful for all the support he has received from the football community and public in general.

"I would especially like to thank the Alfred Hospital and Richmond Football Club for their heartfelt care.

"We have been amazed and blown away at the cards, emails and flowers from everyone, especially the young Tiger fans."

Polak was moved from intensive care to a general ward on Tuesday, with Richmond director of football Greg Miller describing his progress from an induced coma as "remarkable".
