Despite the loss, Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says last Friday night's match against Melbourne was another step forward for the Tigers.

A second-quarter lapse, which resulted in the Demons piling on five of their eight goals, meant the Tigers were on the back foot for the remainder of the clash, but Ferguson was pleased with how his side responded in the second half.

"In the second quarter (the Demons) showed their class and I don't think we got too rattled with our style but we got on the back foot and were looking a step off, but we learned from that at half-time," Ferguson said.

"At quarter-time, we were playing a really good brand of footy hard and tough... and the third and fourth quarters were a real arm wrestles with momentum swings.

"I was really quality game of footy and for us to engage in that was still another step in the right direction. I do feel like we're a better team tonight than when we rocked up for the start of the game.

"We learnt a lot from how well we played in patches and what they did to us in the second, and how we can make sure we limit the damage next time and get back to our way a little quicker.

"I was really happy with how we ran the game out and got back to our aggressive nature."

It was another standout outing from star midfielder Monique Conti, leading the way for the Tigers with 25 disposals, six tackles, eight clearances, and her first goal in the Yellow and Black.

"She embodies that mentality of the team, where we want to get in and hunt the footy, and if we don't get our hands on the footy, we want to be looking to hunt the body as well," Ferguson said.

"Her aggression at the footy and her aggression at the player... I just love her work rate and her effort.

"If she just keeps that work rate and that intensity, it's great leadership."
