Richmond utility Ricky Petterd and first-year Tiger Kane Lambert are expected to miss an extended period of time out of the game through injury, stemming from last Saturday’s loss to the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.

Both will require surgery this week - Petterd to address a foot injury which will see him out for at least three months, and Lambert for a damaged shoulder which is expected to sideline him for 6-8 weeks.

Lambert, making his AFL debut against the Bulldogs, was subbed out of the game during the third quarter.

“He’s got a grade three AC joint, which is going to require a little bit of surgery unfortunately.  A couple of anchors put on his AC joint to help that heal.  So we’re not going to see him for a while,” Richmond’s Physical Performance manager Peter Burge told Roar Vision.

“He was pretty sore, but we did what we could to get him back out there because we had a few guys that were down.

“So it was pretty brave of him to get back out and do what he did, but we won’t see him for a couple of weeks.”

Petterd pulled up sore from his first AFL game of the season, with scans later confirming that surgery was required on his foot.

“It’s really disappointing for Rick.  He’s got what’s called a lisfranc injury . . . he’s going to miss some time out of the game,” Burge said.

“He’s going to need surgery, which he’s having tonight, and we just need to get him back into a rehab program and slowly progress him back through that.”

Meanwhile, Shane Edwards and Brett Deledio, who have both been nursing minor calf injuries, will be tested later in the week before a decision is made on their availability to play the Brisbane Lions this Saturday night.

“Shane’s good.  It was a pretty minor calf injury, but just enough to keep him out of the game, which was a little disappointing,” Burge said.

“But we’ll get him back hopefully this week, and we look forward to seeing him Saturday night.

“Brett’s good as well, so we’re looking to progress his running this week, and we’ll make a decision later in the week whether he plays on Saturday night.”

The Club is expecting Ty Vickery to be available for selection this weekend, after he missed last week with a knee injury.
