Richmond’s exciting, young rebounding defender Jason Castagna has been upgraded from the Club’s rookie list to the primary list on the eve of the 2016 season.

The 19-year-old was rewarded for his impressive efforts throughout the pre-season, and is now eligible for selection in the Tigers’ senior side.

Castagna produced some eye-catching performances at VFL level in his debut season at Richmond last year, after being taken by the Tigers with their second pick (No. 29 overall) in the AFL’s rookie draft late 2014.

He received a temporary promotion to Richmond’s primary list last August, after veteran midfielder Nathan Foley retired, and was considered close to a senior call-up back then.

“Jason has made excellent progress so far in his time at Tigerland, and thoroughly deserves his elevation to the senior list,” said the Club’s General Manager of Football Dan Richardson.

“He’s displayed an exemplary work ethic throughout, and his energetic run-and-carry off the half-back line, along with a relentless attack on the football, have been first class.”
