The attendance at last Saturday’s Richmond v Sydney match, at the MCG, was the biggest ever for a Tigers’ home game against an interstate team.

The crowd of 58,721 smashed the previous record of 46,961 for the Round 20, 2013 clash with Brisbane at the ‘G’.

It also was Richmond’s highest attendance for a match against the Swans anywhere since the 1977 elimination final.

There was a crowd of 63,663 at Waverley Park that September day in ’77 to see the Tigers defeat South Melbourne by 34 points – 13.10 (88) to 7.12 (54).
