Richmond’s VFL side will open its 2019 campaign with a Friday night match against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on April 5 at 7.30pm.

The 2019 fixture was announced today for the newly named Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL, with the Tigers scheduled to play seven home games at the Swinburne Centre and one at Holm Park, Beaconsfield.

As the centrepiece of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round in 2019, there will be a Richmond v Essendon triple header, with the VFL, VFLW and AFL teams all playing within the precinct on Saturday May 25. The VFL and VFLW sides will meet at the Swinburne Centre before the headline Dreamtime at the ‘G match.

The Tigers will play their first home game in Round 2, when they host Port Melbourne on Saturday, April 13 at 11.00am at the Swinburne Centre.

This will be followed by Richmond’s first bye of the season in Round 3.

The season will feature four curtain raisers at the Swinburne Centre prior to Richmond AFL games at the MCG:

  • Round 7 v Box Hill Hawks, Sunday May 19 at 11.40am (AFL: Richmond v Hawthorn 3.20pm)
  • Round 8 v Essendon, Saturday May 25 at 2.30pm (AFL: Richmond v Essendon 7.25pm)
  • Round 18 v Casey Demons, Saturday August 3 at 2.30pm (AFL: Richmond v Melbourne 7.25pm)
  • Round 19 v Northern Blues, Sunday August 11 at 11.40am (AFL: Richmond v Carlton 3.20pm).

The Tigers will play AFL-aligned opponents on the same weekend nine times during the year.

There will also be the introduction of an Anzac themed away game against Casey Demons on Saturday April 27.

In addition to the Dreamtime triple header, VFL/VFLW double headers will include:

  • Round 9 v North Melbourne, Saturday June 1, 2.00pm at Arden Street (VFLW: Melbourne University v Richmond at 11.50am).
  • Round 10 v Geelong, Saturday June 8, 11.00am at the Swinburne Centre (VFLW: Richmond v Geelong at 2.30pm).
  • Round 14 v Footscray, Saturday July 6, 1.00pm at VU Whitten Oval (VFLW: Western Bulldogs v Richmond at 4.00pm).
  • Round 16 v Box Hill Hawks, Sunday July 21, 2.00pm at Box Hill City Oval (VFLW: Hawthorn v Richmond at 11.30am).

Two Richmond games will be broadcast on Channel 7 – Round 7 v Box Hill Hawks and Round 19 v Northern Blues.
