There will be plenty of reasons to get to the Swinburne Centre this Saturday afternoon as the undefeated Richmond VFL and VFLW teams take on Essendon.

Gates will open for ‘Dreamtime at the Swinburne Centre’ from 11am with activities, food trucks, ticket giveaways and Korin Gamadji Institute and Treaty marquees.

From 12pm, the VFLW Tigers, headlined by the Yellow and Black debuts of high profile Richmond Women's recruits, Katie Brennan and Monique Conti, will take on the Bombers.

The two teams will be playing for the inaugural Lady Gladys Nicholls Trophy.

Brennan and Conti are joined in the line-up by fellow AFLW-listed players Tayla Stahl, Maddy Brancatisano and Courtney Wakefield, while experienced pair Lauren Tesoriero and Laura Bailey are named to play their first games of the season.

Prior to the start of the match (11.45am) will be a unity dance performed by female KGI alumni and Richmond Women’s players.

The dance was created by KGI Program Manager Thara Brown and VFLW player Natarsha Bamblett in collaboration with Wurundjeri woman, Mandy Nicholson, and her daughter, Ky-Ya Ward, for language and local story guidance.

Ky-Ya leads the girls into a communal circle to cleanse the area whilst the other dancers gather and then lead into the story of Gunnwarra, the black swan wives of Bunjil, described as protective and fierce. The women voice ‘Balit’, strong in Woiwurrung language, then hunt with digging sticks.

A War-Cry performed by male KGI alumni and a Welcome to Country will then precede the VFL game from 2.10pm.

The top-of-the-table VFL clash will be for the Sir Doug Nicholls Trophy.

Buoyed by the inclusion of Jack Graham, the VFL Tigers (6 wins, 0 losses) will look to continue their flawless start to the season despite a host of injuries. The Bombers sit second on the ladder with a 5-1 record and percentage of 173, which is the highest in the competition.

Both the VFL and VFLW Tigers will wear the Daniel Rioli-designed Dreamtime jumper that is being worn by the AFL team.

Entry to the Swinburne Centre is free of charge.
