Comeback ‘Nank’ boosts Tigers

Jeep Match Moments: Round 21 Watch the top five moments from the Round 21 win over Carlton.

Richmond’s No. 1 ruckman Toby Nankervis made a solid return to AFL action against Carlton at the MCG last Sunday.

Nankervis, in his first game at senior level with the Tigers since sustaining an adductor injury in Round 8, had 15 disposals, five tackles and 34 hit-outs.

“I thought he was pretty good,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said following the team’s 28-point win.

“Once again, it’s hard to judge the game with the conditions, but we were really happy with his ability to compete.

“He took some strong marks and moved the ball forward.”

Hardwick admitted determining Richmond’s ruck set-up for the remainder of season 2019 was posing a challenge for the selectors.

“We’ve got some players, like (Ivan) Soldo and ‘Marbs’ (Mabior Chol), young Noah Balta and ‘CJ’, (Callum) Coleman-Jones, that will play in certain situations.

“Are we going to go with a Nankervis-Chol combination this week?

“Well, we’ve got some choices to make.

“It will be, I think, a ruck by committee approach.

“We’ll figure out what works best for us on any given week.

“We’re very lucky to have all those players playing some outstanding footy for us.”
