Richmond’s preliminary final next Friday night will be the 14th in its league football history.

The Tigers have won seven and lost six of the 13 preliminary finals they’ve contested so far.

Their first preliminary final in the then VFL competition was 100 years ago, in 1919, when they defeated Collingwood by 29 points – 10.14 (74) to 6.9 (45).

And, of course, Richmond’s most recent preliminary final was last year – a 39-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG.

1933: Defeated Geelong by nine points, MCG – 13.5 (83) to 10.14 (74).

1935: Lost to Collingwood by 28 points, MCG – 9.12 (66) to 14.10 (94).

1943: Defeated Fitzroy by 25 points, Princes Park – 12.14 (86) to 8.13 (61).

1944: Defeated Essendon by 21 points, Junction Oval – 16.12 (108) to 12.15 (87).

1969: Defeated Collingwood by 26 points, MCG – 15.17 (107) to 12.9 (81).

1971: Lost to St Kilda by 30 points, MCG – 12.6 (78) to 16.12 (108).

1973: Defeated Collingwood by seven points, MCG – 15.15 (105) to 14.14 (98).

1975: Lost to North Melbourne by 17 points, Waverley Park – 8.11 (59) to 10.16 (76).

1995: Lost to Geelong by 89 points, Waverley Park – 6.4 (40) to 20.9 (129).

2001: Lost to Brisbane by 68 points, Gabba – 10.8 (68) to 20.16 (136)

2017: Defeated Greater Western Sydney by 36 points, MCG – 15.13 (103) to 9.13 (67).

2018: Lost to Collingwood by 39 points, MCG – 8.10 (58) to 15.7 (97).
