The numbers that further enhance Tigers’ triumph

Among premiership teams throughout AFL/VFL history, Richmond used the equal-second-most players this year in its successful quest of the prized cup.

A total of 39 players represented the Tigers in the 2019 season, which highlights the significant injury run they had to endure, and overcome, on their path to premiership glory.

Fitzroy used a record 44 players in its 1944 premiership year, followed by the Western Bulldogs in 2016 and three Tiger flag teams – 1943, 1969 and 2019 – all with 39.

Those 39 players employed by the Tigers in their 25 games for season 2019, was the equal-most across the competition, alongside Melbourne and St Kilda.

38 – Essendon, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney

37 – Carlton, Fremantle, Port Adelaide

36 – Adelaide, Collingwood

34 – Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast, Western Bulldogs

Competition-wide, Richmond also had the equal-least number of players who appeared in every match during the 2019 season.

Only Dion Prestia and Tom Lynch managed to play all 25 of the Tigers’ games.
