The overall influence exerted by hard-running, veteran midfielder Shaun Grigg within the Richmond line-up has been acknowledged by star Tiger key forward Jack Riewoldt.

Grigg again was one of the Tigers’ best, in yesterday’s 26-point victory over Carlton at the MCG, finishing with 26 disposals, a game-high 12 marks, seven inside-50s, four tackles, nine score involvements and 360 metres gained.

He’s been an extremely consistent performer throughout the 2017 season, averaging 23.8 disposals and 6.2 marks per match.

Only twice in 13 games this season has Grigg not finished with 20-plus disposals.

“’Grigga’ is a very smart player, and a very good player for us,” Riewoldt told 3AW in the Richmond rooms post-match.

“He’s been playing that second ruck role, but we gave him a little bit of a break from it tonight . . .

“He’s a player that’s taken his game to the next level, and his leadership to the next level, and is really showing the way for the young guys.”
