One of Tigerland’s most popular figures and valuable role players, Kamdyn McIntosh, will reach the AFL 100-game milestone in Saturday night’s special Dreamtime in Darwin clash with Essendon.

McIntosh was recruited by Richmond from Pinjarra and WAFL club Peel Thunder with its second pick (No. 31 overall) in the 2012 AFL national draft.

He spent his first two seasons with the Tigers playing at VFL level, before making a senior debut in the opening round of the 2015 season against Carlton at the MCG.

It was an eye-catching first-up display by McIntosh, who had 23 disposals and kicked a goal. He subsequently received the Round 1 nomination for the 2015 AFL Rising Star award.

Ninety-nine games on, McIntosh is a premiership player (2017) and he’s averaging 14.8 disposals, 3.8 marks, 2.7 inside-50s, 3.3 intercepts, 3.5 score involvements and 305.4 metres gained per match.

Apart from providing the Tigers with good value on-field, predominantly playing as a wingman, his quirkiness off-field has given teammates plenty of light-hearted moments.

Richmond great Matthew Richardson paid tribute to McIntosh in the latest episode of the Club’s podcast ‘Talking Tigers’.

“I just think guys like Kamdyn, who are characters, and he’s a bit different, he does some different stuff off the field, it just provides great camaraderie in the locker-room,” Richardson said.

“I’m sure the lads have plenty of fun with Kamdyn down in the locker-room. So that creates a great culture and environment.

“And then, on-field, he just gives his all.

“I reckon you go out there each week and, regardless of who you’re playing and what sort of form he’s been in, you know he’s giving 100 percent every single week, Kamdyn.

“He had to work hard again last year being out of the team, and he’s come back this year and just been really consistent, I reckon . . .

“It’s probably because of his hard running – that’s his one-wood. He runs up and back and you know he’s going to do that for the full four quarters.

“He’s really reliable in that wing position at the moment . . .

“And I reckon anywhere within 30-35 metres, when he doesn’t have to try and over-kick the ball, he’s a super-reliable set-shot for goal.”
