Richmond is proud to announce that Swinburne will continue as a partner of its AFLW program in 2021.

The extension will see Swinburne strengthen its support of elite sporting pathways for women, including student placements and internships, and research collaboration opportunities.

Richmond and Swinburne have been in partnership since 2017, with the University also backing the AFLW program for its inaugural season last year.

Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global and Community Engagement)- Interim, Dr Andrew J Smith, said the sponsorship deal's renewal solidifies the partnership between the two organisations.

“Having seen how the AFLW has ignited discussions around women in sport, we are truly delighted to renew our support for Richmond’s AFLW team and look forward to the 2021 season,” he added.

Star Richmond AFLW midfielder, Monique Conti who studies a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences at Swinburne, credited the University for supporting athletes with their studies.

“I’m truly grateful to Swinburne for their flexibility when it comes to assignment deadlines and helping me develop a balance between sports and my studies,” she said.

“I’d heard positive feedback about Swinburne’s support and flexibility in allowing athletes to complete their studies, and I’ve found this to be true.”

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale added that he looked forward to exploring more avenues to continue to develop the partnership through the renewed sponsorship deal.

“Our partnership with Swinburne has been a success thanks to our shared vision and values,” he said.

“Swinburne is a wonderful partner of the Richmond Football Club, and we are thrilled to see them continue to back our AFLW program.”

Richmond AFLW will play four home games at the Swinburne Centre this season, the first-time elite level football has been played at the ground since 1964.
