Anniversaries

•    100 years since champion full-back Vic Thorp becomes the first Richmond player to reach the 200-game milestone in VFL football.

•    90 years since Richmond’s third premiership in the VFL competition, defeating Carlton by nine points in the 1932 Grand Final at the MCG.

•    80 years since the Tigers finished runners-up in the 1942 season, losing the Grand Final to Essendon by 53 points at Princes Park.

•    70 years since champion Richmond ruckman Roy Wright won the first of his two Brownlow Medals in 1952.

•    60 years since Graeme Richmond was appointed secretary of the Club in 1962.

•    60 years since Richmond won its first night series cup, defeating Hawthorn by four points in the final at the Lake Oval.

•    50 years since star wingman Bryan Wood debuted for Richmond at senior level in Round 7, 1972 against North Melbourne at the MCG.

•    50 years since Tigers Team of the Century member Mervyn Keane made his senior debut with the Club in Round 9, 1972 v Fitzroy at the Junction Oval

•    50 years since classy midfielder Paul Sproule’s first season at Tigerland after transferring from Essendon.

•    50 years since Richmond equalled the highest-ever score by a team in a VFL Grand Final – 22.18 (150) – but lost to Carlton, 28.9 (177), by 27 points at the MCG.

•    40 years since the “Melville Island Magician” Maurice Rioli debuted for Richmond in the opening match of the 1982 season against Fitzroy at Waverley Park.

•    40 years since Maurice Rioli won the Norm Smith Medal as best afield in the Tigers’ 18-point Grand Final loss to Carlton at the MCG.

•    10 years since star Richmond midfielder Trent Cotchin won the 2012 Brownlow Medal.

•    10 years since star Tiger key forward Jack Riewoldt won his second Coleman Medal with 65 goals in 2012.
