Tom Lynch, Jack Riewoldt and Shai Bolton celebrate a goal during Richmond's win over Port Adelaide last Saturday night.

Richmond is on the cusp of a 40-year goalkicking first this season.

The Tigers are set to have three players kick 40 goals or more for the first time since 1982.

With two home-and-away rounds of the 2022 season to go, Tom Lynch is Richmond’s leading goalkicker on 47 goals, followed by Shai Bolton, 39 goals and Jack Riewoldt, 36 goals.

Back in 1982, when the Tigers finished runners-up to Carlton, Brian Taylor topped the Club’s goalkicking with 71 goals, then came Kevin Bartlett, 58 goals, Robert Wiley, 40 goals and David Cloke, also 40 goals.

The player currently in fifth place on Richmond’s goalkicking list for 2022 is exciting, young forward Noah Cumberland, who has 13 from his six games (bearing in mind he spent his entire first game on the interchange bench as the medical substitute).

Across the competition, there are only two other clubs likely to produce three 40-plus goalkickers this season.

Geelong has Jeremy Cameron on 56 goals, Tom Hawkins, 54 goals and Tyson Stengle, 39 goals.

Brisbane has Charlie Cameron, 46 goals, Zac Bailey, 33 goals, Joe Daniher, 32 goals and Lincoln McCarthy, 31 goals.
