Richmond has confirmed that Katie Brennan will lead its AFLW team for a seventh consecutive season.
Brennan, 32, is the longest-serving club captain in the AFLW with her leadership span now reaching 10 seasons as skipper across two clubs.
The inspirational leader was again a unanimous choice to lead the group, where she remains a driving force and diligent, caring, and hard-working teammate.
Brennan claimed Richmond’s leading goal kicker award for a fourth time in 2024 and was a terrific performer across 11 games.
“(Katie being voted captain was) unanimous across the Board, players, staff, coaches, anyone that ever walks into this place,” coach Ryan Ferguson said.
“But something we have identified is that leadership is about anyone at any moment, and we have never had more of a breadth of people nominated (for a leadership position), voted for, or commented on than this year.
“Everyone at every moment is leading this team and obviously we have some great direction here and some great support to continue to challenge and inspire.”
Gabby Seymour and Tessa Lavey have again been voted in by their peers as co-vice-captains, recognition for the professionalism and experience both bring to the group.
Seymour will enter a third year as the vice-captain, having initially joined the Club as a cross-code rookie in 2019.
The 28-year-old has played in 57 of Richmond AFLW’s 59 matches and been a part of the Club’s leadership group since Season 7 (2022).
Lavey, who is also a dual Olympic basketball player, returned to the field in 2024 after a toe injury saw her miss the entire 2023 season.
Notably, Lavey was initially elevated to the vice-captaincy despite not taking the field for a year, demonstrating her impact on the group behind the scenes.
Superstar midfielder Monique Conti has again been noted by her peers as a leader, a role she has embraced and grown into since joining the Club for its inaugural 2020 season.
Conti won her sixth consecutive Richmond best and fairest award last season and continually helps set and raise the standards within the program.
Talented youngster Ellie McKenzie and the ever-improving Beth Lynch have each been elevated to leadership roles for the first time in their careers, rounding out the six-person leadership group.
McKenzie, 22, played a career-high 12 games in 2024 and finished third in the best and fairest.
The former top draft pick is highly respected by her peers and has helped set the foundations for the Club’s women’s program across her five seasons with the Club.
Lynch, 28, has been a revelation since returning to the Swinburne Centre, where she had previously been a VFLW player.
The hard-working defender won her way onto Richmond’s list as a replacement player on the eve of the 2022 AFLW season and has featured in 43 out of 44 senior games since, remarkably sitting 6th on the Club’s all-time games list despite being at North Melbourne for Richmond’s first two seasons in the competition.
Lynch is a vocal leader and reliable teammate who was voted the teams ‘Players’ Player’ last season.
