Richmond’s VFL side produced one of their most consistent four-quarter performances of the season last Saturday afternoon at Avalon Airport Oval, with a win over Werribee. Here’s how coach Jake Batchelor assessed the performance of each player.

Harry Scott (25 disposals, six clearances, six tackles)
"He continued his strong form throughout the season, he went to Dom Brew and definitely held his own throughout the most part, so it was very pleasing for him."

Jacob Blight (21 disposals, 24 hitouts, five marks, four tackles)
"50 per cent ruck and 50 per cent key defender this week, he competed really strongly as a ruck. He followed up around the ground and really matched some experienced rucks in there, so it is a good string to his bow."

Lachlan Street (20 disposals, 11 clearances, five tackles)
"He’s building into his season really well, his inside work around the stoppage is increasing each week. His desperation, his fight and his scrap are becoming real hallmarks again."

Joel Garner (18 disposals, 12 tackles, nine inside-50s, six clearances)
"He came into the game under an injury cloud and you couldn’t tell, he just attacked every contest like his life depended on it. We love him so much and his teammates thrive off him."

Lachlan Wilson (16 disposals, eight tackles, one goal)
"He played a high half-forward role for us this week, it was a really diligent role when he would’ve liked to play as an inside-mid no doubt. He kicked a goal, laid eight tackles and controlled the corridor for us well."

Austin Johnson (14 disposals, two marks, two tackles)
"He played as a high half-back up and around the stoppage and gave us good drive out of the backline. He had some good moments where he caught some opposition players and started some attacking chains back the other way."

Tom McKenzie (13 disposals, 11 tackles, four clearances)
"Didn’t stuff the stats sheet but he had 11 tackles and had a lot of physical efforts that probably didn’t get much reward stat wise, but he’s improving well."

Sam Toner (13 disposals, three marks, one goal)
"I think he’s finding his feet really well playing half as a wing, and half of the game up forward. When he is a forward, he is kicking goals or impacting ahead of the ball. His support as the fat side winger has been noticeably strong in the last couple of weeks."

14:58

Nicholas Guiney (12 disposals, five intercept possessions, two marks)
"Played a strong game and put his body on the line multiple times in aerial contests. He is just an extremely brave player and it was great to have him out there."

Harry Armstrong (11 disposals, two contested marks, two goals)
"Great to see him get through, started like a house on fire and I thought he was going to kick 10 goals. As the game slowed down, he got starved for opportunities but his ability to compete was consistent. Two forward-50 goals were purely based off the back of his physicality and presence as a key forward."

Josh Gibcus (11 disposals, four inside-50s, three marks, one goal)
"I thought he had a great game, he had multiple spoils. His aerial presence, contested marking and his ability to hit the scoreboard off a 50-metre penalty was so pleasing. You can see how much his teammates love him by the celebration."

Sam Phillips (11 disposals, three tackles, two marks)
"Thought he had a great game on the wing as his first game in the VFL. He reads the play really well, understands positioning and spacing really well. It would’ve been nice to finish off the set shot with a goal, but we’re really pleased with how he went."

00:25

Liam George (11 disposals, three marks, two tackles)
"An up and down game for him, he had some contest work inconsistencies. However, his ability to put that away and hone in on the second half and keep getting back to what he could control was so pleasing."

Reuben Hanson (10 disposals, 12 hitouts, nine tackles, one goal)
"I thought he had a great game in the ruck, he ended up giving away a few free kicks but his effort and intent to scrap against a really strong ruckman was really strong. He had three shots on goal which was an outstanding outcome."

Tom Ferguson (10 disposals, three tackles, two goals)
"Three shots at goal as a high half-forward, and what was noticeable was his running ability to get front and centre on stoppage wins, help create a contest and cause a delay when we lost the ball."

Mutaz El Nour (10 disposals, seven intercept possessions, three tackles)
"I thought he took a really strong scalp in Hudson Garoni, despite giving up two goals against him. I thought he competed so well in one on ones and was so diligent. He obviously needs the help of others around him but it was a great job by Taz."

00:24

Nicholas Girolami (nine disposals, five marks, two goals)
"Another strong game, it was great to see him not make his game last week versus Southport an event. His diligence in his role as a key-forward was outstanding, he competed really well."

Nicholas Collier (nine disposals, four tackles, one mark)
"I thought he got back to his physical best, used his body well and cannoned into bodies at times, and I think that is what he brings to this team. His running power to get back and support, particularly in wet conditions, was really required."

Jed Feneley (eight disposals, four marks, five intercept possessions)
"A late in, he played as a key back and showed his attributes straight away. His ability to run, jump and mark the ball at its highest point was really pleasing. I think he fits in well, it was great to see him get reward for a really diligent season without getting in any games (of VFL) up until last weekend."

Massimo Raso (eight disposals, two tackles, one goal)
"The impact that he had on the game, it was so much more (than the numbers) just through his sheer chase efforts. I think if the ball bounced the right way at times, he gets to impact the game a little bit more. I was really pleased with his game and the direct impact will keep coming if he keeps turning up."

00:15

Sean Lai (seven disposals, three tackles)
"Played as a half-back and I thought he had some moments where he probably didn’t read the cues quickly enough against his opponent. However, his running power to get back was extremely strong and he’s the quickest player in Australia, so he brought that weapon out really well."

Joshua Pollocks (six disposals, two marks, two goals)
"Had another three shots at goal as a key forward, he reads the play really well. He is still learning on when to set the ground up for attack versus when to be ready for a contest, however, I was really pleased with his output."

Mohammed Yassine (four disposals, three tackles, two goals)
"Suffered a knee injury in the second quarter and we were quite worried, but his ability to push through the pain and continue to build pressure on the opposition and end up with two goals at the end was really pleasing."
