Richmond has selected exciting Northern Knights midfielder/forward Ben Lennon with its first pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2013 AFL National Draft.

Lennon represented Vic Metro at this year’s under-18 championships and was rewarded for his impressive efforts there with All-Australian selection.  He also was a star performer in the TAC Cup competition throughout the 2013 season.

The talented 18-year-old also was a member of the 2013 AIS-AFL Academy, and trained with Richmond for a brief period in January.

“Ben had another strong year in 2013, establishing himself as one of the more talented players in this year’s draft pool,” said Richmond’s Recruiting Manager Francis Jackson.

“Ben is an outstanding mark for his size and is a constant threat overhead.

“He sees the game unfolding better than most and is always getting himself into dangerous areas on the ground.

“With the footy in hand, he is extremely dangerous with his decision making and excellent foot skills.

“In time, we feel Ben will have the skill set and talent to play multiple positions on the ground – back, forward and through the midfield.

“We are excited to welcome Ben to the Club, and we are confident he will add class and flexibility to our team going forward.”
