For star Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt, it was the perfect way to commemorate his 150th AFL game . . .

The Tigers topple top-four team Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium yesterday (Sunday) and he plays a pivotal role in their best win of the season, finishing with 22 disposals, six marks (four of them contested) and three goals, including a clutch six-pointer late in the final term, which sealed victory.

“We built it up as a Grand Final during the week and absolutely rapt to get the points on the board,” Riewoldt said on Fox Footy immediately after the final siren.

“I got a little bit more ball on the ground today.

“It was great to have Troy Chaplin come down there . . . another big body, experienced, good one-on-one.

“I thought Tyrone (Vickery) took another step today.  He took a really crucial mark in the last quarter for us.

“It was good to have multiple options (in the forward line).”

Riewoldt had no hesitation in pointing out what a win like that meant to the Tigers.

“First and foremost, it gives our supporters a chance to go to work on Monday with a big smile on their dial and say they’re Richmond supporters, and proud to be Richmond supporters.  And, it’s the same with the players.  You come off a win like this and you’re proud to be part of the Richmond Football Club,” Riewoldt said.

The dual Coleman Medallist went into the game with his head shaved, as a mark of respect for a family member, who is undergoing cancer treatment.

“I just want to give a bit shout out for my cousin ‘Maddy’, who started chemotherapy today,” Riewoldt said.

“’I love you ‘Madds’, we all love you, and we’re looking forward to you pulling through this’.”
