Star Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt continued his domination of St Kilda in yesterday’s clash at the MCG.

Riewoldt’s six-goal haul, in the Tigers’ 26-point win, took his total over the past seven games against the Saints, to 39 goals.

His sizzling St Kilda goal run started with six goals in Round 11, 2010, followed by seven in Round 21, 2010, eight in Round 10, 2012, seven in Round 2, 2013, three in Round 14, 2013, two in Round 15, 2014, and now six in Round 22, 2014.

The only time he missed out, was in Round 2, 2011, when he was forced from the field early in the match due to concussion.

Riewoldt admitted, in a post-game interview on 3AW, that he had some added motivation yesterday, after lowering his colors to Saints’ defender Cam Delaney when the two teams met earlier this season at Etihad Stadium.

“I got a couple on him early, then he really stitched me up, so I came out with a little bit of a point to prove . . . I wanted to play well,” Riewoldt said.

“Look, sometimes you kick goals, sometimes you don’t.  I just try and continue to play my role.

“Last week (against Adelaide) was a bit of a wet game and I just tried to stand down the line and knock it down.  And, we had more crumbing goals.

“So, I just try and play my role on the night, try and beat my opponent.  Luckily, tonight, I think I may have done that.”

A feature of Riewoldt’s goalkicking display against St Kilda on Sunday, was his preferred method of using the increasingly popular ‘around-the-corner’ kick for several shots from a slight angle, with a 100% success strike-rate.

“I was just playing the percentages, I suppose,” Riewoldt said.

“I feel pretty comfortable doing those sort of kicks.

“I’ve probably been a little bit hesitant to do them in the past.  I had an opportunity to do one against Essendon (Round 20) late in the game, to my left side, but went back and took a (traditional) set shot.

“I feel a little bit more comfortable doing those, but it’s probably a spur of the moment thing.

“Next week, I’ll probably be having set shots from there.”
