Richmond assistant coach Danny Daly has departed the Club, to join the Brisbane Lions coaching panel.

Daly spent five seasons with the Tigers in a variety of coaching roles, after stints with North Melbourne and Collingwood.

He will reunite at Brisbane with former colleague Justin Leppitsch, who left Richmond at the end of the 2013 season to take up the Lions’ senior coaching position.

“We’re sad to see Danny leave, but understand the opportunity he has in front of him,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.

“Danny has been a magnificent contributor to Richmond over the past five seasons.  He is admired by the playing group, respected by the coaches and staff, and his knowledge of the game is outstanding.

“He will be an asset to Brisbane, and we wish him all the best in his new role.”

Daly started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Melbourne metropolitan club Balwyn, before landing a part-time job as a forward scout for Collingwood.

Such was the impression he made at Collingwood, when Dean Laidley, who’d been a Magpie assistant coach, took over as North Melbourne’s senior coach, he asked Daly to join him in a full-time role in 2003.

He spent seven years with the Kangaroos, before switching to Richmond in Damien Hardwick’s first season as senior coach at the Club.
