Richmond will return to its traditional season-opener against Carlton in 2015.

The AFL’s 2015 fixture will not be announced until October 30, but the league has revealed the matches for Round 1, with the Tigers to face the Blues in a Thursday night MCG blockbuster, to open the new season.

It will be a significantly later start to the season, due to the cricket World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand throughout February-March, with the final at the MCG on Sunday, March 29.

The Round 1, 2015 Richmond-Carlton clash is set down for April 2 (Good Friday eve), with the league’s other opening round matches scheduled for Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

It will be the first time since 2011 that the Tigers and Blues have kicked off the new season.

The AFL has also moved to hosting all Round 1 matches on the same weekend, rather than the split-round format of the past three seasons.
