Richmond defender Troy Chaplin is expected to one of several Richmond players available for selection this weekend after being sidelined through injury.

Chaplin missed last Friday night’s match against Melbourne with a minor calf injury, but the Club is hopeful he can get through training this week and line up against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday.

“It was pretty minor, but it just wasn’t good enough to play,” Richmond Physical Performance Manager, Peter Burge, told Roar Vision.

“He was coming off a hard deck up at the Gabba . . . he pulled up a bit sore, but we’re expecting him to play this week.”

Veteran Chris Newman is also likely to be available after he missed the Round 4 clash with the Demons due to a back injury.

“Chris copped a pretty big knock to his back last week.  It was pretty sore for the whole week and we just couldn’t get him up to play,” Burge said.

“We’re hoping he can train and be available for selection this week.”

Defender Dylan Grimes and midfielder Reece Conca are also available to return to the playing field this weekend, while vice-captain Brett Deledio is making progress with his calf injury.

“Brett resumes running this week.  He probably unlikely to be available this weekend, but we’ll see how that progresses over the week,” Burge said.

“Hopefully, we’ve got him back doing skills next week, and we can get him playing some game time really soon.

“It’s been frustrating for everyone, but we’re looking forward to having him back training with the group next week.”
