Emerging Tiger tall forward Ben Griffiths showed encouraging signs in Saturday night’s Dreamtime win against Essendon that he’s not far away from hitting his straps following recent further injury setbacks.

Griffiths, who missed Richmond’s Round 5 loss to Geelong due to a calf injury, and the Round 7 victory over Collingwood through concussion, had 11 disposals, including five score involvements, four inside-50s, an important goal, and took six marks.

“I feel really confident, I just need to get a bit of match fitness back . . . I think I only played a quarter in three weeks, which was really frustrating,” Griffiths said.

“I’ve just got to keep playing my role and then, hopefully, I can start building from there.

“I thought my contested marking was starting to get a bit better as well.

“It was really good to start clunking a few, but it was a bit annoying that I slowed down in the second half.  That’s where I need to get better and start playing the four quarters.

“If I can take five marks a quarter, I’ll be having a pretty strong impact on the team.

“It’s just a building block . . . go from there and start hitting the scoreboard a bit more.”
