Richmond’s 36-point loss to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval last Friday night highlighted the fact that the Tigers still have a way to go in their quest for a sustained high level of performance.

“We’ve shown that when we play our best consistently we’re good enough, but there’s plenty of improvement left in us,” Grigg said on SEN

“We’ve got to iron out those deficiencies because, this day and age, if you’re off five percent on any day, the competition’s so even you’ll lose.

Children under 15 years of age will gain free entry to Richmond’s match against Gold Coast at the MCG this Sunday

“So we’ve got plenty of work to do.  We know that and we’re going to be working really hard on the track this week and looking forward to Gold Coast this coming Sunday, because we need to be on our game to beat them . . . big challenge ahead.”

Although Grigg admitted the absence last Friday night of Richmond star Brett Deledio because of illness undoubtedly was a setback for the team, he felt there were a number of other issues the Tigers need to address.

“He’s certainly a quality player, and he was missed . . . but that’s the challenge for us,” Grigg said.

“We need to get better in all areas, not just missing that one player.

“There are a lot of areas where we need to get better.

“The contested ball, Adelaide really got on top of us and in the previous weeks that’s been a good strength for us.

Grigg conceded the Tigers’ problems last Friday were compounded due to the fact that, overall, they didn’t move the ball quickly enough into their forward line.

“We like to get the ball in and give our forwards a chance one-on-one, so they can use their natural ability and craft to win the ball,” he said.

“Because teams now are so good at getting back and helping out the defence and then rebounding, we want to be able to move the ball in fast.

“We probably didn’t do that good enough (against the Crows).”
