Richmond’s VFL coach Craig McRae provides an exclusive summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players who featured in last Saturday’s match against Frankston.

AFL-listed

Adam Marcon
32 disposals, 20 contested possessions, seven clearances, six tackles

Continued his good form at VFL level, he was a really solid contributor for us. He had 32 disposals, he just needs to tidy up his kick and handball efficiency but his effort was really strong. He was a really good contributor on the day.

Andrew Moore
24 disposals, 12 contested possessions, six clearances, nine tackles

Returned from an AFL opportunity, he was a solid contributor without having a massive impact. His nine tackles stood out, along with his 12 contested possessions.

Jason Castagna
23 disposals, 15 uncontested possessions, 11 handball receives

Jason went back after playing forward for the last few rounds, he continues his good form. He has great athletic qualities and is covering the ground really well. He’s getting close to AFL opportunity.

Liam McBean
15 disposals, four contested marks, ten contested possessions, one goal

Liam started the game really strongly. He was a main reason why we were four or five goals up at half time. He had four contested marks; all of them inside 50, which is a good sign for him. Ten contested possessions is also a reflection of him coming at the football. He died off in the second half which was a little bit symbolic of the team.

Jayden Short
15 disposals, 10 uncontested possessions, eight handball receives

Played through the wing and didn’t have the impact of recent games. He still did a couple of nice things. We still need him to get on the end of ball movement chains off half-back.

Ivan Soldo
22 hit-outs, 15 disposals, nine contested possessions

Started the game really well in the ruck and tired as the game went on and looked quite sore in the end. Frankston dominated centre clearance which is something he needs to work on to be competitive for four quarters. He played against a really good player, Frankston’s ruckman has been around a while and has really good experience. It was a good lesson learnt and Soldo had a really good contested mark and goal early in the game.

Todd Elton
14 disposals, seven contested possessions, four marks

Played key-back and continues to have ebbs and flows in his game. He has some good moments and then some poor lapses in concentration. We’re looking for him to have a four quarter effort.

Ben Griffiths
14 disposals, eight contested possessions, 19 hit-outs, two contested marks

Returned from injury and looked really strong in the aerial contests. He was another one who impacted the game early with his contested marking and ended up with five (marks) for the game, including a really strong one (contested mark) early in the game for a goal. He played also in the ruck and had a little bit of an impact, but again we were beaten in clearance so we need a stronger performance through our rucks.

Nathan Broad
12 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, six handball receives

Played on a wing and then went to half-back, he had a really solid performance last week and tailed off this week. His tackling efficiency and intent was poor on the day which has to improve. We also need him to run and carry the footy, as we saw the previous week.

Mabior Chol
Four goals, 12 disposals, seven contested possessions, two contested marks

Played his best game for the club. He finished the game with four goals and his marking was a feature as well as his intensity around the contest was a progression from previous rounds.

Dan Butler
10 disposals, six handball receives, two tackles, one goal

Played forward, another who came in and out of the game. His tackle pressure is something we need from him and his intent, similar to Broad was poor and something he needs to work on.

Ben Lennon
Nine disposals, six contested possessions, two tackles

Started the game slowly in the first quarter, built into it nicely in the second and then unfortunately copped a head knock late in the second quarter, just before half time and didn’t return.

Oleg Markov
Nine disposals, seven uncontested possessions, five handball receives

Played at half-back for the first time in his career and looked really promising at times. His attack in the aerial contests and his run-and-carry with the ball showed he’s got something to offer down there.

Callum Moore
Eight disposals, four marks, two tackles

We were a bit disappointed in a couple of his disciplinary acts and we’ll address that during the week.

VFL-listed

Sam Darley
23 disposals, 12 uncontested possessions, six marks

Our captain didn’t have the impact of recent weeks, we really need him to lead from the front with his ball use and also lead this young team. We’re looking for him to have a better performance next game.

Nick Mellington
19 disposals, 14 contested possessions, six clearances

Nick played through the midfield, again didn’t have the impact of recent weeks. We need all our midfielders controlling around the stoppages, we were beaten well in centre clearances and clearances on the day. We need him to stand-up in that area.

Anthony Scott
Three goals, 16 disposals, eight contested possessions

Played his best game for the season, he looked really lively up-forward. He kicked three goals and set a few others up. His attack on the ball in the air was a feature and we were really pleased with his efforts on the day.

Luke Conca
12 disposals, six tackles, eight uncontested possessions

Played his first game for the season. He started the game well and had five tackles to halftime. His ability to play his role is important and we need him to understand everything that goes with in that.

Ryan Gale
12 disposals, six marks, nine uncontested possessions

Played back and like most of the backs, had moments, and started the game well but as the game wore on they lost more one-on-ones which we need them to stand-up in.

Tom Couch
11 disposals, eight uncontested possessions, five handball receives

Unfortunately got injured in the second half and didn’t play any further part. He started the game well, kicked the first goal and we needed his strength at the contest which we missed in the second half.

Tyson Kruse
11 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, five marks

Another one of the those backs that started well and then tailed off. The weight of numbers made it hard in the end, losing inside-50s 57–46, the pressure was a lot for these guys but we need them to stand-up.

Tom Silvestro
10 disposals, eight contested possessions, four tackles

Our 23rd player, he was another who didn’t have the impact as of previous weeks. He has great intent at the contest and we like his upside as a player and he plays his role really well.

Jake Aarts
Eight disposals, two tackles

Small forward and had minimal impact on the game, he didn’t play his role consistently for four quarters.
