Talented teenager Corey Ellis has revealed he didn’t have the slightest hesitation in signing a new playing deal with Richmond.

It was announced this week that Ellis had agreed to a two-year contract extension, which would see him remain at Tigerland until at least the end of the 2018 season.

And, the silky-skilled left-footer, who was Richmond’s first pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2014 National Draft, couldn’t be happier . . .

“It has been pretty straightforward the whole time.  There was no doubt that I was going to sign again . . . (I’m) really excited,” Ellis said on ‘Sportsday’.

“I’m loving the Club, I’m enjoying all the boys and, now that we’re winning a few games, the Club’s a lot happier and it’s a great place to be.”

Ellis is thriving in his second year in the AFL environment.  He has been impressive in a new role across half-back at senior level for the Tigers this season, playing nine of the 10 games (missing one through general soreness), averaging nearly 15 disposals per match, and utilising his fine foot skills to the team’s advantage.

“I’m absolutely loving it . . . There are challenges, and it’s a tough game at times.  But all the boys are great, and they pretty much make it as easy as it can be,” he said.

The 19-year-old provided an insight into Richmond’s capacity to stay composed in the face of a trying six-game losing streak early this season.

“We’ve got a lot of cool, calm heads around the Club, and that starts with the captain and the leadership group,” he said.

“Despite how we’ve started seasons, they’ve been pretty much leading the way, through thick and thin and been really good at it.

“I think that’s one of the reasons why we tend to come back and keep fighting in games and starting to win some.”

Ellis also paid tribute to the energetic encouragement provided by the Tiger Army.

“We love our fans . . . they stick with us through thick and thin,” he said.

“They’re always showing up to games and we really appreciate their support.”
