Brett Deledio will have scans on his troublesome right calf after pulling up sore in Saturday's win over Essendon.
Deledio starred in the first half at the MCG with 19 possessions, but he didn't take any further part in the game after reporting tightness during the main break.
"We'll see how he pulls up. We don't want to make that call now, we'll wait for Brett's assessment and the medical guys will talk through that," coach Damien Hardwick said on Saturday.
"It was only tightness, there was no incident as such, so we hope it's OK. But we're not going to take any risks with Brett at this juncture.
"He just pulled up tight at the half-time break … so we wrapped him up and we'll get some scans during the week."
Hardwick paid tribute to Essendon for pushing his team for four quarters on Saturday, with missed opportunities in the last quarter ultimately costing the Bombers.
Star midfielder Dustin Martin had a big say in the result with a career-high 43 possessions and 14 clearances, but Hardwick was also thrilled with a standout performance from key forward Ben Griffiths (three goals and 12 marks).
"He was great and he probably needed a big game," the coach said.
"We spoke to him during the week … he's got incredible athleticism, he's got a really powerful kick, and when he believes in himself he's a really dominant player.
"We've seen a number of those spikes, we're just looking for that consistency level from him."
The Tigers are in "mini-rejuvenation" mode for the rest of the season and there were more signs on Saturday that there is talent among the club's youngsters.
Rookie half-back Jayden Short (25 possessions and seven rebound 50s) continues to grow in stature, Hardwick said, while Oleg Markov was showing maturity beyond his two games experience.
"While we're not where we want to be, we're also reasonably excited about what we've got coming through," the coach said.
"If we can solidify some positions by the end of the year … that's a really positive step.
"Trying to get those guys up to speed is what as coaches we're trying to do."
Rookie Jason Castagna was also singled out by the coach for another impressive performance, winning a season-high 23 possessions and five inside 50s in his fourth game.
The 19-year-old, who started the season as a half-back, has improved every game and is shooting for a senior list spot in the last six weeks.
"It's been good to break back into the side and play a bit of midfield and forward and find a bit of the ball," he told AFL.com.au.
"I'm rapt to be out there and playing my role for the team, I just want to keep my spot and hopefully play out the rest of the season.
"I feel a lot more comfortable in my second year as part of the group and a lot more comfortable with my role."
