Richmond forward Ty Vickery will explore his options as a restricted free agent, his agent Scott Lucas has revealed.

Far from being the done deal with Hawthorn many had suspected, Lucas said the field to secure Vickery was much wider.

"Free agency is something we'll strongly explore, and I don't think that's a secret," Lucas said.

"The newspapers have been very specific (in regards to Hawthorn), and I think it's a bit broader than that.

"There's additional interest here."

Lucas said Vickery was still weighing up his options, and his decision to miss the club's best and fairest should not be seen as an indication he will leave the Tigers.

"Vickers was going away anyway, it'd been two or three months since he'd seen his wife (Arina Rodionova) who's a very good tennis player and had been in the US.

"If he arrives at the decision that he would like to explore those options, then I think we will."
