Consecutive Thursday night blockbusters against traditional rivals at the MCG headline Richmond’s 2017 home-and-away fixture.

The Tigers will again open the 2017 AFL season against Carlton in Round 1 on Thursday, March 23 and then a week later, take on Collingwood in a home game at the MCG.

The 2017 fixture includes the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G match between Richmond and Essendon as part of the Sir Doug Nicholls round, as well as the now traditional ANZAC Day Eve match between Richmond and Melbourne on Monday night, April 24.

“It is an exciting start to the season against traditional rivals Carlton and Collingwood and our members and supporters will look forward to those games,” Richmond CEO, Brendon Gale said.

“The Dreamtime at the ‘G game continues to grow as one of the marquee games of the season and we are pleased to continue to build our ANZAC Day Eve fixture with the Melbourne Football Club.

“Naturally we are disappointed not to get one Friday night game next season. We are a big Club with the third biggest membership in the league, and our games always rate well in that timeslot. Equally, we understand the need to reward some of the better performed sides from last season."

Richmond’s fixture also features six Saturday night matches and three Saturday afternoon matches.

“Saturday fixtures give us a great opportunity to align VFL fixtures or run fan events at Punt Road so we will look to maximise those family-friendly opportunities,” Gale said.

The Tigers also return to Queensland to play two matches; the Club did not play in the Sunshine State in 2016.

“We’re really happy for our members and supporters in Queensland that we’re heading back up there twice in 2017,” Gale said.

“Richmond is well represented in Queensland, and I know our members and supporter groups in the different regions of Queensland will be excited to have two opportunities to watch us play in their state next year.”
