Richmond’s VFL side has signed former Brisbane Lion Hugh Beasley and ex-Frankston inside midfielder Brandon Wood.

Beasley, a key-defender, joins the VFL Tigers after spending two seasons on the Lions list.

The 21-year-old played six AFL matches for Brisbane in 2015, before he experienced an injury interrupted year in 2016.

He played seven matches at North East Australian Football League level, then was delisted by the Lions at the season’s end.

The former Oakleigh Charger was recruited to Brisbane with pick No. 22 at the 2015 AFL Rookie Draft.

Richmond’s VFL and development coach Craig McRae said Beasley was an agile and competitive footballer.

“Hugh is and experienced and talented key-position player,” McRae said.

“He is athletic, quick, competitive and good in one-on-one contests and we think he will be a real asset for our backline.”

Wood, 23, joins the VFL Tigers after spending two years with the Dolphins.

A strong bodied player, in season 2016 he averaged 24 disposals, 12 contested possessions and seven clearances.

The former Eastern Ranges captain also recorded a season-high 17 clearances against Collingwood in Round 15.

“Brandon will not only bring strength to our midfield, but he brings great leadership qualities to our side,” McRae said.

“He is a tough player and we look forward to seeing him and Hugh in yellow and black in season 2017.”
