Richmond VFL and development coach Craig McRae provides an exclusive summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Sunday's big win over North Ballarat in Round 1 of the VFL.

AFL-listed players

ANTHONY MILES

35 disposals, 20 contested possessions, 10 clearances, 11 inside 50s, two goals

‘Milesy’ played another great game at VFL level, he played well above the level, he's ready for AFL opportunity when it presents.

SAM LLOYD

27 disposals, 13 marks, five goals four behinds

Played forward for the whole game, had 27 disposals and an excellent balance of contested and uncontested possessions. He looks ready for AFL opportunity as well.

TAYLOR HUNT

24 disposals, five marks, five inside 50s

Continued to look solid at the back. He's a great organiser for us, high handball receives, and a good balancing of kicking and carrying the ball. A good performance.

JACOB TOWNSEND

21 disposals, 11 contested possessions, six clearances, six tackles, five goals

Continued his good form, kicked five goals, had 21 disposals and played both midfield and forward. He's really playing above the level at the moment.

COREY ELLIS

19 disposals, eight contested possessions, five marks, five clearances

Corey played across the wings and a bit at half back. His contest work is really improving, eight contested possessions is reflective of that.

JAKE BATCHELOR

18 disposals, eight contested possessions, four marks, five rebound 50s

Played three quarters. Got through the game well, had 18 disposals and five rebound 50s. Intercept marking was a feature for him.

BEN LENNON

18 disposals, eight marks, eight contested possessions, six goals three behinds

He's just come back from AFL football, it was his first game back for about four weeks. Every time he comes back he plays well above the level. He finished the game with six goals and three behinds, and his three contested marks and long goals from 50 were a feature.

CALLUM MOORE

15 disposals, two marks, one goal

Played as a key forward for us. He continues to develop and show great growth in his football. He had 15 disposals and only the two marks, but he was providing a great contest and bringing the ball to the front.

IVAN SOLDO

54 hit outs, 15 disposals, nine contested possessions, two goals

Had the main ruck duties with Ivan Maric out. 54 hit outs, four clearances and two goals is pretty exceptional for a young developing ruckman. He was very important in the result for us.

STEVEN MORRIS

14 disposals, seven contested possessions

Played his second full game for us after having a half and three quarters for us in recent weeks. He's a great organiser, it feels like we have another coach when he's out there. He had 14 disposals and a good balance of defence and offence.

NATHAN DRUMMOND

13 disposals, five contested possessions, 11 tackles

Nathan took on a role against North Ballarat's best ball winner, Nick Rippon. He did a fantastic job and kept him to six disposals, got 13 himself and set up many scoring opportunities. He also finished with 11 tackles, which was a testament to the role he played.

MABIOR CHOL

12 disposals, four marks, 15 hit outs, one goal

Mabior played second ruck as well as playing forward. He had 15 hit outs, and was a good ally for Soldo in the ruck. He competed hard, and kicked a nice goal from a contested mark. He's developing nicely.

TYSON STENGLE

12 disposals, four marks, two goals

Relatively quiet in the first half, but came into it in the second, kicking three goals. His pressure late in the game was also a highlight.

RYAN GARTHWAITE

Seven disposals, five contested possessions, three marks

Had his best game for the club. Covering fifteen kilometers is a testament to his work rate and his ability to cover for others. He looks like he's coming along well.

VFL-listed players

JACOB BALLARD

31 disposals, 15 contested possessions, six marks, three goals

He's becoming one of the stars of the competition, and a really important player for us. He had 31 disposals, looked dangerous going forward, and ended up with three goals and five tackles.

BRANDON WOOD

26 disposals, 14 contested disposals, seven clearances, six marks, one goal

Played his first game for us, having spent time at Frankston and Box Hill. He looks a real beast around the contest, which is exactly what we recruited him for.

JAKE AARTS

21 disposals, nine marks, two goals

Played as a forward and was a key cog in our forward line. He finished with 21 disposals, which are big numbers for a forward. He kicked two goals and set many others up as well.

JAMES FLETCHER

21 disposals, four contested possessions, four inside 50s

Played through the wings and had 21 disposals. He showed plenty of hard running, got back and helped out, and was another important ball user for us.

SAM DARLEY

19 disposals, six marks, five rebound 50s

He carries the ball really well for us. He had nine handball receives of his nineteen disposals, as well as five rebounds and three inside-50s. He showed very good balance.

THOMAS SILVESTRO

19 disposals, 10 contested possessions, five marks, one goal

Another one of our VFL players playing a great role for us. 19 disposals on the wing, plenty of hard running and was ferocious at every contest.

MAX O'SULLIVAN

17 disposals, four marks, one goal

Played his first game for the club. Had 17 disposals which, again, is excellent for a forward, and kicked his first goal, which was a real highlight for him.

HUGH BEASLEY

11 disposals, three contested possessions, four marks

A key defender we recruited from Brisbane. He's really important for us, a strong presence down back and looks hard to beat one-on-one.

DANIEL COFFIELD

Nine disposals, four marks

One of our important VFL role players. He's really hard to play on, it's a great asset for us to have him.
